Wall Art Size Guide

Choosing the right size is the whole game with wall art. This guide covers the ten sizes our framed canvas prints come in, where each one works best, and the two measuring tricks designers actually use.

The ten sizes

8x10 and 9x12 inches. Shelf, desk and small wall prints. Best layered on a picture ledge, propped on a sideboard, or grouped in a gallery wall.
11x14 and 12x16 inches. Entryways, hallways, bathrooms and above a desk. Big enough to read from across a small room.
16x20 and 18x24 inches. The versatile middle. Over a reading chair, in a bedroom, or as the anchor of a small gallery wall.
20x24 and 24x30 inches. Over a sideboard, dresser or fireplace. These start to carry a wall on their own.
24x32 and 30x40 inches. Statement sizes. Over a sofa or a bed, or alone on a large wall.

The two rules that matter

Two thirds rule. Art above furniture should be about two thirds as wide as the piece below it. A 60 inch sofa wants roughly a 40 inch span of art, which is a 30x40 print on its own or a pair of smaller prints together.

Eye level rule. Hang art so its center is 57 to 60 inches from the floor. Above furniture, the bottom of the frame should sit 6 to 8 inches above the top of the piece below it.

Measure before you order

Tape the outline of the size you are considering on the wall with painter's tape and live with it for a day. It takes five minutes and removes all the guesswork. All of our prints are vertical (portrait) orientation.

Frames

Every size comes in four frame colors: black, white, espresso and natural, on a 1.25 inch deep frame. Hanging hardware is included and every print arrives ready to hang. Browse the full line in the Wall Art collection.
